Biographical History

Stephen L. Alley (1915-1997) was a professor of education and university administrator in Provo, Utah.

Stephen Lewis Alley was born on September 25, 1915 in Bancroft, Idaho to George Alley and Henrietta Johnson. He graduated from Harvard University with a doctorate degree in education, as well as undergraduate degrees in Math, English, Chemistry, and History. In 1939, he married Maurine Christensen and they had four children. He served as chair of the Department of Education Philosophy and Programs from 1958 to 1962. In 1964, he was appointed as the chairman of the Department of Teacher Education and served in this capacity until 1966. From 1970-1974, Alley was the Dean of the College of Education. He was also the chairman of the Faculty Committee on Teaching. He passed away on May 13, 1997 at his home.
