Administrative History

The Utah Statehood Centennial Commission (1993-1998) was created to plan the celebration for Utah's 100 years as a state.

After much struggle Utah was finally decreed a state on January 4, 1896. In order to celebrate its Centennial in 1996, the Utah Statehood Centennial Commission was created. The governor at the time was Michael O. Leavitt. The chairman of the organization was Stephen M. Studdert from 1993 to 1996. By statue, the commission was intact until June of 1998.
