Letters, 1901-1918
Handwritten and typewritten letters, signed by Bates. One handwritten item is addressed to Barton O. Aylesworth and responds to a request for autobiographical data. One handwritten letter is addressed to a Mr. Flynn and regards their mutual love for American literature. Also included is one handwritten verse of the poem "America the Beautiful" which was written by Bates. Also with the collection is a typed letter from Bates to Flynn regarding a recent song the latter wrote.

Handritten letter dated 29 March [1836?]. The item is written in the third person and is addressed to "Mr. Holdsworth, Bookseller," concerning a pamphlet recently published by Bathurst. Also included is a photocopy of a portrait etching of Bathurst.
