Handwritten journal from December 1879 to December 1883. The first few pages includes a description of his birth and early years in England with his family; emigration to Utah; and his early enrollment in Brigham Young Academy. The last two pages include additional information that had been ommitted, mostly referring to ordinance information, including baptism and priesthood. The majority of the volume includes nearly weekly entries from January 1880 to December 1883. Dated 1879-1883.

Handwritten journal includes nearly daily entires from September 1, 1890 to July 26, 1891. Begins in Salt Lake City, Utah, and ends in Rome, Italy. Includes Talmage's appointment as president of the Deseret Museum in January 1891. In July 1891, Talmage had been requested to attend a conference of the Royal Microscopical Society in London, England, and spent time traveling throughout Europe. Dated 1890-1891.
