William attends his brother-in-law's funeral. He writes of the politics of his day. He spends much time with his family. William and Carol begin babysitting many grandchildren frequently. William serves often in the temple. He has engine trouble with his Ford and has to get it repaired. Carol has to leave for a while to care for her elderly mother. William and Carol travel across the country on a church history tour. William's sister Luell agrees to be put in a rest home.

William and Carol are kept busy caring for many of their grandchildren. Their son Reed begins suffering from poor health. William gets into a car accident on Christmas Eve but emerges uninjured. William and Carol celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. William's family helps Heather move into a new home with her children away from her husband. William's granddaughter Bayley falls out of a moving car, but receives minimal injuries. William and Carol welcome two new grandchildren.
