Scope and Contents note
This collection contains interviews pertaining to the change of policy on hale (dorm) moms at BYU Hawaii from older women to current married students. These interviews include two hale moms who have worked in this postition for most of their working lives and one hale mom that was a current student at BYU Hawaii. They describe their experiences with the student residents and their interactions and influence upon those who live in the dorms. These interviews were conducted in June 2008 by Brad Westwood.

P. Bradford Westwood is the Manager of Collection Development for the LDS Church's Historical Department. He is also the co-founder of the A. Dean Larsen Book Collectors Conference.
P. Bradford Westwood grew up in Provo, Utah and spent his summers on the Oregon coast. He received his Bachelor's Degree from BYU in American Studies in 1985 and his Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Historic Preservation in 1994. He worked for the BYU L. Tom Perry Special Collections and served as the assistant chair from 1997-2002 and chair from 2002-2008. In 2009 Brad became the Manager of Collection Development (museum, archives, and library) for the LDS Church's Historical Department. He is the co-founder of the A. Dean Larsen Book Collecters Conference. His subject specialties include rare books and manuscripts, the administration of cultural repositories, architectural history (19th/20th Century American and European) and historic preservation.

This collection contains interviews from three former hale, or dorm, moms at Brigham Young University Hawaii performed by Brad Westwood during April 2008. Included in this collection are the interview transcripts for each interview and the cassette tapes.

This collection belongs in the 21st Century Western and Mormon Americana because it represents an aspect of history of Brigham Young University Hawaii that is not well known. It gives important historical accounts of a practice that ended in 2008.
