Joseph Shepherd and Sanford Allred journals
Scope and Contents
Shepherd's journal chronicles his missionary service in England as well as his migration to Sanpete County, Utah. Allred, who married Shepherd's daughter Ellen, chronicles his life in Spring City, Utah and his mission to Hawaii.
Joseph Shepherd and Sanford Allred journals, 1847-1897 contains two archival series -- Series 1: Joseph Shepherd journal, 1847-1863 -- Series 2: Sanford Allred journal, 1866-1897.

Biographical history
Joseph Shepherd was born 31 August 1818 in Darnall, Yorkshire, England to John Shepherd and Charlotte Moody. In Darnall, on 6 July 1840, he married Ellen Wragg, with whom he had six children. Five years later, he was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 9 August 1845 in Attercliffe, England. In 1850 he immigrated to Utah, eventually settling in Sanpete County. Joseph Shepherd died 3 February 1876 in Moroni, Utah. Shepherd's daughter Ellen married Sanford Allen on 18 October 1869. Sanford Allred was born 30 October 1848 in Kanesville, Iowa to Isaac Allred and Mary Henderson. In 1884 he was called on a mission to the Sandwich Islands. Sanford Allred died 8 November 1900 in Spring City, Utah.
