Scope and Contents

Contains an indenture, dated August 27, 1716, discharging Thomas Boells from the service of John Campbell for the sum of ninety pounds. It also grants a portion of land in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to Thomas Boells. The indenture includes the seal of John Campbell, and was witnessed and examined by Thomas Gordon and John Barclay.

Biographical note

John Campbell (b. circa 1672-1733) was a New Jersey resident and high sheriff.

John Campbell was born around 1672. He was related to Lord Neill Campbell, govenor of New Jersey. John Campbell settled on the Raritan river. He was married to a woman named Mary and they had six children: John Douglass, James, Margaret, Janet, Ann, and Neil. John Campbel was the high sheriff of the Somerset and Middlesex countries. He died in 1733, his will being proved April 18, 1733.
