Scope and Contents

Passenger waybills for the transport of Monrow Davis from Quincy, Illinois, to Nauvoo, Illinois. The item was originally purchased at Quincy, Illinois. Also included are William Houck, listed as "Houcks Boy," and E. R. Rumsey from Warsaw to Nauvoo, Illinois, paid to R. S. Robertson.

Scope and Contents

The second waybill is for transport of James Stodgett from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Warsaw paid to Joseph Smith, first president of the Mormon Church. It contains the following holgraphic message: "Mr. Stodgett is a respectable clergiman and intitled to the good will of all men and especially the household of faith. May God bless him." Much of the message is not entirely legible.

Donated by Wilbur L. Snelson. A man named Wayne Stesenson (?) worked for Snelson's father and owned these items for years. He gave them to Snelson's father because of their relationship to Mormon Church history.
