Scope and Contents

This collection contains three account books of George Laub that record his carpentry work and expenses, 1843-1844, 1850-1851, and 1862-1868. Also contains miscellaneous financial documents, and several letters to and from George Laub and his family and friends, 1845-1880.

Biographical / Historical

George Laub (1814-1880) was born in Pennsylvania and raised by his adopted father, George Weidler, from the time he was 8 years old. When he was 18, he began his trade work as a carpenter. He was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 27. He soon thereafter moved to Nauvoo to join the rest of the Saints. In 1845, he was adopted by and sealed to John D. Lee. He continued westward to Utah and finally settled in St. George in 1863.
