Biographical / Historical

Silas Hillman (1820-1876) was an early Mormon convert and Utah pioneer.

Silas Hillman was born on February 27, 1820 in Cambridge, New York to Mayhew and Sarah King Hillman. He and his family were early converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and lived in Kirtland, Ohio, Missouri, and Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1846 he left Nauvoo with the Mormon emigration, and was selected to help with a way-station in Coonville, Iowa. In 1852 he continued on to Utah and settled in Provo, Spanish Fork, and eventually in Faust (Tooele County). There he worked as a schoolteacher and rancher.
