Biographical / Historical

The Report on Buckley Mine in Provo, Utah, is a description and analysis of a mine near Squaw Peak which should contain gold, copper, silver, and lead. It is owned by the Garden City Mining Co. of Utah, with principal stock by Judge Hatch. The general local manager, S.H. Buckley of 309 E. 500 N. in Provo, wants $50,000 for the mine, or terms comparable. The report includes a few interesting details on local possibilities of working the mine, including the fact that "there is no union and labor has been employed at $2.00 and $2.50 per day." Coal can be purchased in Provo at about $3.00 per ton. The adjacent Sparrow Mining Claim is also discussed. The tunnels from some of these mines still exist today.
