Scope and Contents

The collection contains one broken glass plate negative of a Mr. Sherwood in uniform and one print reproduced from that negative. It also contains the discharge paper for George M. Hewins from 1865 for his service with the Massachusetts Heavy Artillery during the Civil War. Also included is the birth certificate record for Jessie Hewins, the marriage certificate for Jessie Hewins and Charles Sherwood from 1897, and their certificate of divorce from 1901. There is also a certificate given to Jessie Sherwood stating her completion of an English composition course in 1918.

Biographical History

Jessie M. Hewins was the daughter of George W. Hewins, born in Walpole, Massachusetts, and of Mary E. Hastings, born in Fryeburg, Maine. Jessie Hewins was born on January 6, 1874 in Worcester, Massachusetts. She married Charles L. Sherwood on October 5, 1897 in Needham, Massachusetts. They officially divorced on January 9, 1901.
