Seeley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah; moved to San Bernardino, California; saw human bones at the site of the Mountain Meadows Massacre on the way back to Utah; lived several places in Utah; stood guard during the Black Hawk War against the Ute Indians; and eventually settled in Castle Dale, Utah.
