Biographical History

The Urie family of Cedar City, Utah, was headed by John Urie (1835-1921). John was born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Agnes Main and George Urie. He later migrated to Salt Lake City, where he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked as a blacksmith and eventually settled in Cedar City, Utah. He is believed to have been a participant in the Mountain Meadows Massacre, and some researchers suggest that his wife Priscilla Klingensmith (1855-1942) was one of the surviving children of the massacre. He married Elizabeth Hutcheson (dates unknown) in 1856; Sarah Ann McMillan Farrell (1826-1891) in 1858; and Priscilla Klingensmith (1855-1942) in 1873. The latter two wives were plural wives. John Urie died 11 February 1921.
