Abstract

Microfilmed collection of materials dealing with regions of the Pacific.

Arrangement note

There are no frame numbers on the film. Frames are not all the same length. By comparing the frame number of a desired item with the total number of frames in the reel the approximate location may be determined. Bracketing, that is narrowing the search by looking both before and after the suspected location will help.

The collection has been divided into 6 series: 1. Sherman Pompey materials on the history of New Guinea and some of Micronesia, 1885-1969; 2. Sherman Pompey materials on philately (Stamps and Postal History) of New Guinea and some of the Northwest Pacific (Micronesia), 1885-1970; 3. Sherman Pompey materials on the history of New Guinea and Micronesia, continued, 1948-1970; 4. Sherman Pompey South Pacific pamphlets, news clippings, and philately with manuscripts from early exploration to recent times (alphabetical), 1774-1970; 5. Sherman Pompey: letters, papers, journals and diaries of a coastwatcher in the British Solomon Islands during World War II (Reverend Silvester), 1943-1955; and 6. Sherman Pompey: extracts from U.S. census records by locality, genealogical records of Sherman Lee Pompey, and Civil War-period military units in the West, 1779-1900.
