Biographical History

Promoted to Vice-Admiral in May 1804, Collingwood served as second-in-command to Lord Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar. After being informed of Lord Nelson's mortal wound, Collingwood removed his flag to HMS Euryalus, and assumed command of the British Fleet.

Following the British victory at Trafalgar, Collingwood was awarded a pension of 2,000 pounds per annum and was made Baron Collingwood. On November 9, 1805 Collingwood was promoted to Vice-Admiral of the Red, Commander in Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet. Baron Collingwood died at sea on March 7, 1810.
