Scope and Contents

This collection consists of fifty-one letters from Rolla Virgil Johnson to his wife, "Zella," from 1915-1917 while Rolla was serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northern States and his wife was living in Huntington, Utah. Also contained in the collection are two letters written from "Zella" to Rolla in 1913 before they were married; one letter from Rolla to his sister Norma Johnson in 1916; and two letters from a Sister Lola Johnson to Rolla who appears to be serving as a President of some kind in the mission field. Finally the collection contains one unidentified photograph, possibly of Rolla Virgil Johnson.

Biographical History

Rolla Virgil Johnson was born on December 17, 1889 in Huntington, Utah, to Hannah Eliza Rowley Johnson and Miles Edgar Johnson. He married Lozella "Zella" Kirby (1897-1987) on April 8, 1914. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northern States from approximately 1915-1917.
