Christensen was a Danish Mormon convert who presided over branches in Denmark, emigrated to Utah (1861) where he presided again over a branch, and was president over the United Order in Richfield (1876-1881). In 1881-1883, Christensen went on a mission for the Mormon Church to Scandinavia where he presided first over the Hjerring Branch and then, the Aalborg Conference. He brought home with him 122 emigrants from Aalborg to Utah. Christensen was a polygamist (3 wives, 27 children) and served time in the Utah State Penitentiary for "unlawful cohabitation."
