Biographical History

Ward E. Pack (1834-1907) was a pioneer, missionary, and legislator in Utah.

Ward E. Pack was born in Watertown New York on April 17, 1834. His parents were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He came west with his parents to Kirtland, and then to Missouri. His family was frequently threatened by mobs. He saw the bodies of the Prophet Joseph Smith and Hyrum Smith after they were martyred in 1844. When fourteen years old, he crossed the plains with his family. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in September 1848. He married Elizabeth Still on March 5, 1853. He served his first mission to Hawaii in 1854 (then called the Sandwich Islands). Shortly after he came home, his wife, Elizabeth, passed away (1858). Under the direction of Church leaders, he married Laura Cravath in 1858, Agnes Lowry in 1863, and Selena Carpenter in 1888. He went on a mission to the Eastern States and a second mission to Hawaii. He served in the Legislature of Utah. He also assisted with the emigration of European Saints to America. He passed away on November 20, 1907 in Vernal, Uintah County, Utah.
