Contains mostly correspondence, much of which is to Ruth M. Penrose (wife of Frank W. Penrose). The collection also includes a warranty deed, photo negative (no label), newspaper clippings, and patriarchal blessing of Frank William Penrose, 1896-1938.

Biography History

The Penrose family consists of Charles W. Penrose and his wife Louise Elizabeth Lusty and their ten children, including Frank W. Penrose.

Charles W. (William) Penrose was born 4 February 1832 in London, England. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England in 1850. He married Lucetta Stratford and had three children. He later married Louise Elizabeth Lusty in 1963 in Salt Lake City and had 10 children with her. He served multiple missions in England for the Church and immigrated to Utah in 1861. He became an editor of the Deseret News and also wrote many LDS hymns. He became an apostle of the Church in 1904 and served in the First Presidency under Joseph F. Smith and Heber J. Grant from 1911 under until his death, on May 16, 1925.

Frank W. (William) Penrose was born 25 January 1876 in Ogden, Utah, to Charles W. Penrose and Louise Elizabeth Lusty. He married Ruth McQuarrie on 14 June 1904 in St. George, Utah. He died 9 January 1949 in Salt Lake City.

Eva Lena Penrose was born 20 March 1897 in Salt Lake City to Ernest S. and Maria Pace Penrose. She was also the granddaughter of President Charles W. Penrose of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a stenographer for the public utilities commission from 1921-1931. She died February 1964 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
