A letter from Lucy H. Flake (writing from Snowflake, Arizona) to her brother, William Henry White, March 4, 1883. She writes that her family has been spared so far from the smallpox epidemic (she was vaccinated the day before writing this letter). Her mother has just cut her visit short to go to the Temple. She is happy to share her Latter-day Saint religion with inquiring outsiders. 4 pages.

Biographical History

Lucy Hanna White Flake (1842-1900) married William Jordan Flake in 1932. They had thirteen children together.

Lucy Hannah White (later Flake) was born on August 23, 1842, in Walnut Grove, Knox, Illinois. Her parents were Samuel David White and Mary Hannah Burton. She married William Jordan Flake (1839-1932) on December 30, 1858, in Cedar City, Iron County, Utah. She passed away on January 27, 1900, in Snowflake, Navajo County, Arizona. Her children were James Madison (1859-1946), William Melvin (1861-1861)*, Charles Love (1862-1892), Samuel Orson (1864-1864), Mary Agnes (1866-1909), Osmer Dennis (1868-1958), Lucy Jane (1870-1952), Wilford Jordan (1871-1871)**, George Burton (1875-1878), Roberta (1877-1981), Joel White (1880-1977), John Taylor (1882-1973), and Melissa (1886-1886).

* Some of these children whose birth and death years are the same lived for a few months.

**Another Wilford Jordan is shown same birth and death dates, only in 1872 instead of 1871.
