Administrative History

The West Mountain Mining District was established in 1863 and originally encompassed the Oquirrh Mountains.

Mining activity in California made precedents which were transferred to Utah Territory and made into law by Congress in 1872. The West Mountain Mining District originally included the whole area of the Oquirrh Mountains, and was established in December of 1863, but when silver was discovered on the western slopes they divided the district into the Rush Valley District and the West Mountain District.
