Scope and Contents

The collection contains Mary’s research notes for her book called "4 Zinas: A Story Of Mothers And Daughters On The Mormon Frontier," photographs, tributes, letters, biographical sketches of her ancestors, poetry, financial records, notes, obituaries, manuscripts, journals and ephemera. The collection also contains materials pertaining to her family. These include patriarchal blessings, photographs, appointment books, and 19th Century Mormon materials including a plate, silk, handkerchiefs, hats, and clothing. There are also photographs and letters from her time serving as a missionary in the London England Mission.

Biographical History

Mary Brown Firmage Woodward (b. 1916) was a family historian.

Mary Brown Firmage Woodward was born August 8, 1916 to Zina Card and Hugh B. Brown. She attended Brigham Young University in the 1930s and during this time she married Edwin E. Firmage. After Edwin's death in 1986, she married Ralph Woodward in 1988. She has researched many aspects of her family history, and she wrote a book about the four generations of women before her entitled "4 Zinas: A Story of Mothers and Daughters on the Mormon Frontier."
