Laray M. and Blanche McBeth Hansen Family Papers: The Laray and Blanche McBeth Hansen Papers include two archival series, “Laray M. Hansen papers,” for which there are five subseries, and “Blanche McBeth Hansen papers,” for which there are two subseries. Materials found in series 1 include letters, as well as photographs, newspaper clippings, postcards, handbills, and official mission correspondence. Letters discuss Hansen’s mission progress and struggles. Materials found in series two include letters from various other suitors and friends to McBeth, and collected items from her time in Provo and Payson Utah, as well as letters from Hansen, serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany.

Biographical History

Laray M. Hansen was born in Payson, Utah, February 22, 1902. He married Blanche McBeth in 1925, after a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Germany. The mission was from May 1922 to June 1924. During these years, he accumulated postcards and a collection of books, reflecting his interest in the opera. He also abundantly and consistently communicated with McBeth, who was living in Payson and Provo, Utah. The two were married May 7, 1925. They had two daughters, JoAnn and Betty. Laray died June 3, 1989.

Biographical History

Blanche McBeth Hansen was born March 4, 1904, in Payson, Utah. Her parents were William Edson Mcbeth, and Eva Elizabeth Loveless. She met her husband, Laray M. Hansen, in the Payson schools, where she performed in plays and operas.
