Oral history interviews with Charles and Nellie Harvey
Scope and Contents note
Oral history interviews conducted by John Abraham to Charles and Nellie Harvey on 3 July 1872, sponsored by the Utah State Historical Society and California State University, Fullerton Oral History Program southeastern Utah project. The interview subject is the Mormon exodus out of Mexico. Charles discusses his birth and childhood in the Mormon town Diaz (named for Mexican President Porfirio Diaz) in Mexico. He describes how his father was shot and killed by a neighbor shortly before "rebels" raided their town. Charles' family moved to Moroni, Utah in 1912, but he stayed down by the New Mexico/Mexico border to work. He finally migrated to Blanding, Utah a year later and joined the army. After a military tour in Europe he married Nellie Johnson in the fall of 1919. Nellie describes raising their family in Blanding during Indian uprisings, the Great Depression, and their later trips back to Old Mexico. Bound manuscript, 28 pages, index included.
