Biographical History

Vernon Gurnsey Liston (1923-2009) was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II and a steel worker in Utah.

Vernon Gurnsey Liston was born on November 28, 1923 in Collinston, Utah to Lavon Reeves Liston and Lola Barney Liston. He was raised in Salina, Utah, and attended Salina public schools. From 1940–1941, he participated in the Civilian Conservation Corps and in 1943 he enlisted in the US Army. He landed at Normandy and fought in France and Germany, spending some time as a prisoner of war. He was wounded several times and received several military decorations.

Following his discharge he worked at Geneva Steel, Columbia Steel, Mountain Fuel Supply, Kennecott Copper, and the Utah Paper Box Company. He married several times, first to Carma Carlson in April 1945; they divorced in 1946. He married Lois Acocks Clark in 1948; they divorced eight years later. He married Helen Hatch in 1957; they divorced in 1968. He married Helen Goodin in 1969; she died in 1991. He married Ella Faye in 1993; she died in 2003.

Liston died on August 15, 2009.
