Biographical History

John M. Perry (1868-1909) was a miner, electrician, town board clerk, deputy sheriff, and Justice of the Peace.

John M. Perry was born on June 21, 1868 in Utah, to parents John and Harriet Perry.

He was the chief electrician at the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad (D&RG) electric plant at Helper. He later moved to Castle Gate to work for the Utah Fuel Company as their chief electrician. While there, he also served the community as the Justice of the Peace. The Helper D&RG plant requested his return, so he returned to operate their plant. While in Helper, he continued his community service as a Clerk for the Town Board, and as a deputy sheriff of Carbon County.

He died as his clothing or keys were caught while walking between two flywheels in the D&RG power house, and he was instantly hurled to the floor, causing his death on September 21, 1909.
