Contains correspondence, diaries, printed ephemera, clippings, photographs, and other material by Elaine Cannon and other members of the Cannon family. The clippings document Cannon's church service, writing, and family life. Also includes materials by D. James Cannon. Materials date from between 1832 and 2003.

Biographical History

Elaine Cannon (1922-2003) was an author and editor in Utah.

Elaine Anderson Cannon was born on April 9, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Aldon Joseph Anderson and Minnie Evaline Egan. After earning a degree at the University of Utah, Elaine married Donald James Cannon on March 25, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah and they had six children. She worked as an editor for the Deseret News, wrote articles for a few magazines, and helped organize the LDS Student Association. Elaine served as the 8th Young Women General President in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1978 to 1984. On May 19, 2003 she died in Salt Lake City, Utah.
