Identifier: MSS 2770

Scope and Contents

Japanese printed materials from World War II. The collection includes 47 Japanese postcards dating from 1944-1945, 1 Japanese book of maps, 1 Japanese song book, 1 "Extra Number of Lady's Graphic" containing latest of the imperial family, 1 "Life Saving Leaflet" (a leaflet carried by a Japanese person or persons surrendering to American forces), and 1 Japanese leaflet depicting Japanese civilian encounters with American forces. On the back of some of the postcards is written "found on tomb stone hill Sept. 18, 45 2:20 PM." Another says, "Okinawa Sept. 10, 45." Apparently the materials were found by U.S. forces on Okinawa following the war. Some of the post cards depict Japanese soldiers in battle.
