Scope and Contents

Photocopies of daily battle communiques from 6 June 1944 to 7 May 1945 for the Allied Expeditionary Forces, Europe. These materials document the United States armed forces activities during the European Campaign in Western and Central Europe. These items were collected by Lt. Col. D. Reed Jordan, Chief, Communique Section, Public Relations Division.

Administrative History

The Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) was established in on Feb. 13, 1944 in London, England under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Following the invasion of Europe, SHAEF was moved to Versailles, France (Aug. 1944-May 1945), and later for Frankfurt, Germany. SHAEF was dissolved on July 14, 1945.
