Contains a collection of letters, photographs, negatives, and film stills related to Zane Grey. Many items relate to photographer Robert Gene McDuffie, and may have been collected by him over time. Correspondence includes professional letters to Zane Grey, personal letters from family, friends, and fans to Zane Grey, and letters between Robert Gene McDuffie and the Grey family. Photographs include Zane Grey and his home in Altadena, California taken by Robert Gene McDuffie, and at least one photo taken by Zane Grey of Rainbow Bridge, Utah. Film Stills include various scenes from several different productions and production studios that may have been taken by Robert Gene McDuffie. Items date from 1922-1961.

Biographical History

Robert Gene McDuffie (1922-2004) was a veteran, journalist, writer, photographer, and biographical author of "Zane Grey: the Man and the Legend".

Robert Gene McDuffie was born on September 14, 1922 in Los Angeles, California, to parents Van Buren McDuffie and Carrie Belle Stone. McDuffie went on to work as a postal clerk before enlisting in the United States Army in 1942, where he served in World War II. He then went on to work as a secretary and ghost writer for Warner Bros. He is the author of a biography of Zane Grey titled "Zane Grey: the Man and the Legend". He passed away on September 20, 2004 in California.
