Scope and Contents

Contains two diaries that A.T. Henson wrote during his service in the Canadian military during World War I in Europe. The first diary covers September 7, 1917, to February 28, 1918, and the second covers March 1, 1918, to July 12, 1918. Also contains one World War I photograph album, including photographs, letters, and printed ephemera that Henson created and compiled to document his military service overseas. These materials are dated from 1915 to 1919.

Biographical / Historical

A.T. Henson was born on January 31, 1888 in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England, to Albert Henson and Annie Marie Groves. At 22 years old, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Great Britain from August 1910 to October 1912. He served in World War I from 1915 to 1919 in the Canadian military, and was Bandmaster of the 50th Canadian Infantry Band. He died October 22, 1985.
