Mormon family, Great Salt Lake Valley

 Item — Folder: 1
Identifier: MSS 8878

Scope and Contents

Contains an albumen stereo card showing the Ashton family in Kaysville, Utah. It was taken by Andrew J. Russell, who was with C.R. Savage and Alfred A. Hart to photograph and document the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad in this Mormon settlement in the Utah Territory. Andrew J. Russell and C.R. Savage photographed this family at the same time. Russell mistakenly recorded that it was a polygamous family. In reality, those shown in the photograph are Samuel Ashton, his wife, Mary Bunting Ashton, her three sisters, five nieces and nephews, and her mother.
