Contains 11 black and white photographs of Window Rock, Arizona taken by Milton Snow. They were taken between 1937 and 1957, when Snow was hired by the Navajo Service to create a photographic department, and to document U.S.—Navajo relations.

Biographical / Historical

Milton Snow is an early 1900's photographer from Alabama.

Milton Snow (1905-1986) was born on April 9, 1905 to Maud and Joseph Snow. He attended Riverside Junior College, where he studied photography, English, zoology, and geology. He began his career as an archaeological photographer, working in Arizona, California, and Utah. In his later career, he was employed to create a Navajo Service photograph department. He built his own dark room. It was in the basement of the Navajo Service Employee's Club in Window Rock Arizona. He worked there for 20 years. Snow retired in 1957. He passed away in March of 1986 in Bernalillo, New Mexico.
