Scope and Contents

Contains Lois W. McIntyre's travel journal and hotel stationary notes documenting her vacation to Honolulu, Hawaii; Wake Island; Manila; Singapore; Bangkok; Hong Kong; and Tokyo. In her journal, she summarizes daily travel itineraries and comments more particularly on flora, dress, and cuisine of each destination she visits. McIntyre makes reference to the construction of the "Mormon University" in Hawaii. Dated 1958 July-August.

Biographical History

Lois W. McIntyre (1889-1977) was a widow, mother, and solo traveler.

Lois W. McIntyre was born on November 13, 1889 in San Diego, California to parents Hans Patten and Lois Carl Whitney. She worked as a stenographer in a law office before she met and married John Brewer McIntyre, a local mechanic, on September 20, 1913 in San Diego. They raised four children together. After the birth of their first child and while she was pregnant with twins, her husband was drafted in World War I and returned home in 1918. Lois W. McIntyre was widowed in 1923. Following her husband’s death, she became a librarian for the District Court of Appeals in San Francisco, California and she enjoyed solo traveling.

Lois W. McIntyre died on July 14, 1977 in Los Angeles, California.
