Includes minutes from meetings at Brigham Young University which Berrett attended between 1967-1969, primary and secondary source documents pertaining to his research in Mormon history, and materials pertaining to his career as a religion professor at BYU including syllabi, textbooks, and lesson plans. Materials dated between 1843-1991.

Biographical History

LaMar C. Berrett (1926-2007) was a Mormon scholar and author who was born in Riverton, Utah and spent his entire life in Utah teaching in Seminary in Copperton and Heber, Utah as well as Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After twenty-nine years of teaching at BYU, he died in Provo.

LaMar C. Berrett was born March 28, 1926 in Riverton Utah. He joined the United States Military in 1944 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. After the war he served a Mormon mission in the Southern States Mission. On August 3, 1950 he married Darlene Hamilton in the Salt Lake Temple, they were the parents of nine children. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in business and later recieved his master's and doctorate degrees from BYU. He was a seminary teacher in Copperton, Utah as well as Heber. He later worked as a professor of religion for twenty-nine years at BYU. He passed away August 25, 2007 in Provo.

Eric Snow (approximately 1975 - ) is a Brigham Young University alumnus, and has been a software developer/engineer for various computer companies since 1998.

Eric Snow has been a resident of the Provo, Utah area since he attended Brigham Young University in the 90s. While he has been in the Provo, Utah area, he served as a TA which he helped test a Linux-based Virtual Private network, an intern for IBM where he helped create the school software program Schoolvista, a Technical Support/Software Engineer for Verio, and recently as an engineer for the open-source software company Canonical where he helped in creating a cloud service for Canonical's operating system Ubuntu. During his time as a student, he also served a mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina between 1994-1996.

Bruce R. McConkie (1915-1985) was a Mormon ecclesiastical leader and author.

Bruce Redd McConkie was born on July 29, 1915 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He grew up in Michigan, and in Monticello and Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended school at the University of Utah, where he earned his bachelor's and juris doctorate degrees. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Eastern States, and participated in the first Hill Cumorah Pageant in 1936. McConkie was called as a general authority of the Church in 1946, and became an apostle in 1972. He also presided over the Southern Australia Mission. He was well-known as a Mormon doctrinal author and poet. McConkie passed away on April 19, 1985 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Brigham Young University was established in 1903 in a renaming of Brigham Young Academy. Past and present Brigham Young University presidents include George H. Brimhall (1903-1921), Franklin S. Harris (1921-1945), Howard S. McDonald (1945-1949), (acting president) Christian Jensen (1949-1951), Ernest L. Wilkinson (1951-1971), Dallin H. Oaks (1971-1980), Jeffrey R. Holland (1980-1989), Rex E. Lee (1989-1995), Merrill J. Bateman (1996-2003), Cecil O. Samuelson (2003-2014), and Kevin J. Worthen (2014- ). Brigham Young University is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as part of the Church Educational System (CES). The university is governed by a Board of Trustees, which, since 1939, has consisted of the First Presidency of the Church as well as other General Authorities or general officers of the Church appointed by the First Presidency. The Board of Trustees provides general direction and oversees the formulation of broad policies as well as the approval of all executive leadership and faculty appointments at the university. The Board of Trustees delegates to the University President the responsibility to conduct the operations of the institution and administer the policies enacted by the board. The President serves as the chief executive officer and general manager of the University. Since 1996, the President of the university has also been a General Authority of the Church. Brigham Young University has grown from a small academy to one of the world's largest private universities. Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, BYU offers a unique educational environment that promotes learning by study and also by faith.

Eric Snow collection materials were found in his home which was previously owned by LaMar Berrett, and were donated to the L. Tom Perry Special Collections on January 2016.
