Biographical / Historical
Alvin Bryon White (1892-1918) was a Salt Like City native and was a Mormon missionary in England.
Alvin Byron White was born April 12, 1892 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John Nephi White and Lena Andrea Thoreson. In 1913 he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to England where he served in the Nottingham Conference. Released from his mission on December 25, 1915, he returned to the United States. On June 14, 1916, he married his childhood sweetheart, Zina Thora Augusta Thorup in Salt Lake City, Utah.
At the time of his marriage, Alvin worked as an accountant for the Crawford and Day Furniture Company in Salt Lake City. Their first child, Byron Wilson White, was born April 13, 1917. During the worldwide influenza pandemic of 1918, both Alvin and his wife Zina became seriously ill. Zina survived the illness, Alvin did not. He died December 8, 1918. On May 5, 1919, approximately five months following the death of her husband, Zina, gave birth to a daughter, Elizabeth White.
