Mae Fraley papers
Scope and Contents
Collection contains dance manuals from many countries around the world, folk song books, clippings, personal research, pictures, dance camp booklets and syllabi, and other folk dance related materials collected by Mae Fraley. The materials span the years 1938-1996.

Biographical History
Mae Fraley (born 1919) was a magnificent teacher and tour director, as well as one of the top researchers in the field of folk dance.
Mae Fraley, of Rockville, Maryland, specialized in collecting folk dance materials from all over the world, and dedicated a great part of her life to researching folk dance in the Library of Congress, where she holds special clearance to do research at any time.
Fraley's teaching career began during World War II, entertaining the troops in Europe by teaching square dancing. She went on to teach international folk dance for many years, with involvement in the Kentucky Dance Institute and Newcamp dance weeks at Frostburg, Maryland. She was also dance director for the Swiss Folklore Group of Washington, D.C.
Several years ago Fraley divided her vast collection of folk dance materials into two parts. The Lloyd Shaw Foundation Archives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, received materials relating to American Dance (that have since been moved to the University of Denver Colorado), while material relating to international folk dance was given the the Music and Dance Library of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Mae Farley died February 10, 2012.
