Collection of scrapbooks, photographs, newspaper clippings, scripts, and other papers relating to the people and times connected with Andy Devine. Also includes various 5" and 7" tapes, phonographs, 16mm and 35mm film reels and audio recordings. Also includes multiple home movies in various forms.

Biographical History

Andrew Vabre Devine was born in Flagstaff, Arizona, on October 7, 1905. He was a successful college football player during which time he went by the alias Jeremiah Swartz. He later gained a part in a silent movie. It was thought that his high raspy voice would threaten his career in the talkies but proved to be his trademark for popularity. He was a comic actor who appeared in films, theatre and television. He died on February 18, 1977.
