Scope and Contents

This collection contains 14 various sized black and white photographs of scenes around Salt Lake City, Utah. Images include George Q. Cannon, the Salt Lake Temple, Brigham Young's grave, the Eagle Gate, the General Tithing Office, the Salt Lake Tabernacle, the Saltair Resort, Garfield Beach, and a few portraits of unidentified people. The majority of the photographs were taken by C.R. Savage, but others were taken by F.I. Monsen and Co., C.W. Carter, Ellis and Goodwin, B.B. Peterson, and G. Flower.

Biographical / Historical

C.R. Savage was a prominent photographer of Utah and the West. He is known for his photographs of the nation's railroads and matters relating to Utah's history. He operated the "Pioneer Art Bazaar" on Main Street in Salt Lake City, Utah, from the 1860s until his death in 1909.
