Scope and Contents

Collection includes ten copy prints, with corresponding acetate negatives, of photographs which belonged to Edward Hunter. The photographs are mostly portraits and include an image of himself and images of Heber C. Kimball, John Taylor, Ralph David Wann, Alice Henry, Catherine Ann Brendel, Eugene Wann, and Susanna Brendel. Dated approximately 1850-1930.

Biographical / Historical

Edward Hunter was born on June 22, 1793, to Hannah Maris and Edward Hunter in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. He married Ann Standley on September 30, 1830, in Chester, Pennsylvania. He was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After being baptized he married Laura Lovina Shimer Kaufman, Susannah Wann, and Henrietta Spencer. He served in many different positions in the Church. Edward was first called to be the captain of the Edward Hunter and Joseph Horne Company and then to the Jacob Foutz and Edward Hunter Company. After that on October 19, 1849 he served a missionary in the Missouri River and helped the church as an emigration agent. Edward served again as a captain to his own pioneer company in June-October of 1850. He served again as a Bishop in the Eastern States Mission starting on November 10, 1871. Edward died on October 16, 1883, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
