Felix Clemens Koziol was born on June 17, 1900, in Little Falls, Minnesota to Anton Koziol and Maryanna Sygulka. He was one of six children. On March 22, 1924, in Kalispell, Montana, Felix married Bernice Annabelle Spring. Together they had two children. He served in the United States Forest Service for 42 years. During his work, he co-authored the first official publication on avalanches. He went on to publish two additional handbooks, in 1954 and 1961, that became official government handbooks used by snow rangers everywhere.
