 Item — Box: 361, Folder: 11
Identifier: FA 1 Item 4468

Scope and Contents note

This project is a collection of pool games that were played by the informants when they were children. The analysis discusses the central focus that a swimming pool often is in the summer lives of children. Also talks about the role of imagination and creativity in children's lives. Claims that while some objects, like spoons, could serve creative purposes in pool games, formal pool toys limited creativity and were rarely used in creative play. Also claims that gender and competition were factors in pool games. Games collected include the following: Marco Polo, synchronized swimming, tea party, make believe (mermaids, pirates), Pickle, Colors, Sharks and Minnows, and several others. Collected by Megan Nelson, Dr. Rudy's ENGL 391 class, Spring 2009.
