Biographical History

William Mark Waddoups (1878-1956) was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Samoa and Hawaii.

William Waddoups was born February 8, 1878 in Bountiful, Utah Territory to Thomas Waddoups and Mary Call Waddoups. He grew up on their modest farm until his call to serve in the Hawaiian mission from February 1900 to May 1904. When he returned, William married Olivia Session on October 12, 1904 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In July 1918 William was called to serve as the first Temple President of Hawaiian Temple and in 1926 the Mission President of the Hawaiian Mission. He served in those callings until his release in 1930. One year later William was called again to the President of the Hawaiian Temple for 5 more years until his release in 1936. After returning to Utah, he and Olivia were called to serve another mission as a couple in Samoa in April 1936. They lived there until September 1937. They returned to Utah again, and began to work for the State Genealogical Society and served a short while in the Temple Square Mission. In July 1941, William was offered and accepted a position with a company in Honolulu. In 1947 he officially retired as the superintendent of the leper colony in Molokai and returned to Utah.

William M. Waddoups passed away on September 2, 1956 in Pleasant Grove, Utah and was buried in Bountiful, Utah.

Olivia Waddoups (1883-1969) was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii, Samoa, and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Olivia Sessions Waddoups was born September 21, 1883 in Bountiful, Utah, to parents Peregrine and Sarah Anne Bryson Sessions. She married William Mark Waddoups on October 12, 1904, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Together they served a mission to Hawaii in 1918 where they lived until 1936. They were then called to preside over the Samoan Mission from 1936-1937. They returned to Utah for some time where Olivia served in the Temple Square Mission of Salt Lake City, Utah. The Waddoups left Utah from 1941-1946 for a work opportunity back in Hawaii.

Olivia died on December 17, 1969, in Mission, Texas. She was buried in the Bountiful City Cemetery, in Bountiful, Utah.
