Letter from Thomas L. Kane to Elisha Kent Kane, went to Washington and had a private interview with President James K. Polk about the Mormons, Polk considered Kane's intentions to be "of the highest and most praiseworthy patriotism," "my course of conduct unquestionably has elevated me in the Executive’s opinion," "we two must not be meek and lowly if we seek to inherit this earth," gathers letters from General Lewis Cass and President Polk to accompany him on his journey to the Mormons, includes note with biographical information on St. John Chrysostom, whom Kane identified as his patron saint, dated May 29, 1846. Includes 2 typescripts.
