Scrapbook contains information about Gulian Verplanck, Harry Casey Weir, and William Bayard Weir, with materials dating from between 1849 and 1886. The Gulian Verplanck section contain newspaper clippings about his suicide. Harry Casey Weir section contains one photograph of Weir and his obituaries. William Bayard Weir section contains newspaper clipping about his murder by the Indians. There is also a note by Lavinia M. Morehead, written between 1765 and 1929.

Biographical note

William B. Weir (1849-1879) was an Army officer and a son of Robert Walter Weir and brother to J. Alden Weir.

William Bayard Weir was born on April 15, 1849 to Robert Walter Weir and Susan Martha Bayard. Weir was the Chief of Ordinance of the Department of the Platte. First Lieutenant William B. Weir was killed by Indians on October 20, 1879 twenty miles from the White River.

Gulian Verplanck Weir (1837-1886) was an Army officer and son of Robert Walter Weir.

Gulian Verplanck Weir was born on December 28, 1837 to Robert Walter Weir and Louisa Ferguson. In 1861 Weir joined the 7th New York Regiment as a private. Because of his achievements in the Civil War he was promoted to first lieutenant, fighting in the battles of Chancellorsville, second Bull Run, Gettysburg, and Fredericksburg. On November 10, 1874 Weir was promoted to Captain in the 5th Artillery. On July 18, 1886 Gulian shot himself in the heart at his quarters at Fort Hamilton.

Biographical note

Harry Weir Casey (1861-1880) was the grandson of Robert Walter Weir.

Harry Weir Casey was born on June 17, 1861 at West Point, New York to Lt. Col. Thomas Lincoln Casey and Emma Weir. Harry was a member of the Junior class in the scientific department at Yale College. Casey drowned at Narragansett Pier on September 1, 1880.
