Scope and Contents

Contains records from eecher's involvement with various organizations. Records from the Charles Redd Center include information on her position on the Advisory Council, manuscripts, correspondence regarding seminars and grant fellowships, annual reports, budget projections, and research grants. Also includes files relating to the Dialogue independenct Mormon magazine, including article proposals, pamphlets, board meeting minutes, correspondence, status reports, and lists of book reviews. Records from the Mormon History Association include correspondence, council meeting minutes, financial records, convention and workshop proposals, the constitution of the organization, programs from the annual meetinsg, newsletter, and information covering a conference in Great Britain. Also includes files relating to the BYU Film Committee, including correspondence, budgets, film applications, outlines for various documentary films, agendas for meetings, and project funding requests. Records from the Association for Mormon Letters includes records from the awards committee including correspondence and a bibilography, newsletters, and brochures of the organization. Also includes files from the American Academy of Religion, including manuscripts reviewed by members at a panel in Boston. Records from the Canadian Mormon Studies Assocation include calls for papers for conferences, manuscripts, tour information, information on grant programs, the directory, and brochures. Also includes records from BYU Studies, including minutes from the Board of Advisers meetings and manuscripts to be reviewed. Contains records from various other publishing agencies as well, 1973-1996.

Biographical History

Maureen Ursenbach Beecher (born 1935) was an English professor and research historian in Utah.

Maureen Ursenbach Beecher was born March 19, 1935 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Charles Ursenbach and Lucile Harvey. In 1958 she left to serve in the Swiss-Austrian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held the positions of editor and senior research associate of the History Division of the Church from 1972 to 1980. From 1981 to 1997, she served as a research historian for the Joseph Fielding Smith Institute for Latter-day Saint History as well as an associate professor and professor of English. She retired to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1997.
