biographical statement

Marie Ludwig-Giordano (1887-1980) was a renowned performer and harp instructor of the New York and Chicago areas.

At the age of twelve Ludwig began her harp studies with Clara Murray of the Lyon and Healy Harp Salon in Chicago; furthering her studies later with Enrico Tramonti and Edmund Schuecker, and eventually studying in France with the distinguished Henriette Renié.

When she was only twenty-two Ludwig took the recommended position as harpist for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, a post she shared with fellow harpist Carlos Salzedo.

Ludwig later returned to Chicago and taught for many years at the Lyon and Healy Harp Salon in Chicago. Teaching well into her nineties, some of her students include Mildred Dilling, Susann McDonald, and Ellis Schuman.
