Biographical History

George Edmond Miles (1866-1970) was a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission.

George Edmond Miles was born December 9, 1866, in London, England, to John H. W. Miles and Jane Mary Wyatt. He arrived in Utah in 1878 with his mother and four siblings, and settled in St. George. He initially worked at a general store near the Silver Reef Mine. When he was 27, George married Victoria Josephine Jarvis, and they had seven children together. In 1896, at age 29, Miles was called to serve a mission in the Southern States, where he served until 1899. In St. George, Miles taught school in Washington County for four years, was St. George City Clerk for 18 years, juvenile judge for eight years, and justice of the peace for three terms.

George Edmond Miles died at the age of 103 on February 7, 1970.

Includes nearly daily entries describing Miles' experiences as a missionary. Journal is in two volumes: Volume 1 is July 1896-April 1897 and Volume 2 is May-November 1897.
